There's a lot to love in this powerhouse video editing utility, but be prepared to do the hard work necessary to learn how to access all of its bells and whistles. There are a couple of others I might have bought and been just as happy with, but I just wasn't interested in paying their higher prices.

Also this compact and versatile little beauty has one asset I consider absolutely essential, When motorcycling I shoot a lot of my video on a GoPro, even though I'm not a big fan of the fish-eye perspective it distorts into wide shots. The Sony Vegas distortion filter does a pretty good job of straightening out those warped edges.

Now here is the most important part of this review: Before you decide to buy the Sony Vegas Studio--and certainly AFTER you buy it--you might want to look at a magnificent set of tutorials posted online.

Derek Moran is an awesome Aussie who probably knows Vegas editing better than any person alive. I suggest you explore his web site, which Amazon in its undue diligence won't let me post here.

You'll have to Google it for yourself using the words movie studio zen. One person found this helpful. You can check some of my previous postings, even as crazy and memory hungry as Adobe Premier Elements has been I always thought it was the best user interface Having said that I was not confident in recommending it to countless friends who asked for my recommendation on editing software for their home video. Most of them simply did not have the computing power and memory to overcome Premier Elements memory hog headaches.

Magix is a second to this new Sony release; however, NOT a close second I have also enjoyed a stress-free, crash-free rendering and burning to DVD all types and lengths of video footage. It appears that Sony got this right and we will all benefit from it.

If Adobe was ever to get off it's tail and actually add some real user value to a next release It gives you the ability to edit each aspect of the recording audio, video, and layers separately, which seems powerful, but makes the interface somewhat difficult to understand. The difficulty it presents is surely relative to the experience one has with video editing.

Someone who already has strong video editing skills might find the interface easy and intuitive, so I'm only removing one star for this aspect of the product. I had tried purchasing the online download of one of the "lesser" versions of this software. Not only did the download always screw up, but I was unable to get my money back.

The "updates" were just awful to deal with so I finally just went out and bought this one when a sale popped up. If you overload the program with too many video clips or go so far to have too many "undo"s lined up it might crash. But it's the best one I've used so far. Found doing my work in smaller chunks is best.

Quality is great, easy to use, all the lil features I always wanted and more. Between this and Acid Music Studio I'm having a ball. A friend who is well-versed in home video helped me to finally get it installed. So much for SONY's customer support. They don't seem to have any. Based on the huge acceptance of SONY hardware in professional video facilities, I figured their software would be outstanding.

Unfortunately, as a producer, I never dealt directly with computer editing software. Well, the learning curve on Vegas is steep, and very often, you need to choose from a list of options that you won't understand. SONY has little pop-up boxes to supposedly answer questions for the novice, but they don't. Many, many hours were spent online looking up tech terminology that SONY uses as if everyone in the world knows what they're talking about. Let's put it this way: after completing one project, I took Vegas off my machine.

I guess the investment was worth it, but I never want to have my brain ache like that again. Incidentally, a friend out west owns the latest, most expensive pro version of Vegas, and is a highly-trained electronics tech Want to make a simple video? Use MS MovieMaker. Need to do pro work? I understand Final Cut Pro is the popular choice. But as for Vegas? Roll the dice on it, and you lose.

I hate you now, SONY. Never again See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. For those who've been using Windows movie maker for years this might seem to be a complex editing software with a mind-bogglingly vast array of options and features. Well, I've now used this for couple of years and wouldn't go back to Windows moviemaker now.

You'll find this quite familiar since it uses similar features to movie maker but with far more options to render and convert, add effects etc. Unlike movie maker you can have multiple video and audio tracks, there's a ton of filters, effects, text fonts, text animations and a thriving forum with many more add-on effects filters which can be added later. Please note; editing HD footage will strain your system.

I would say at the very least you should have as a minimum a 64 bit Windows 7 and i5 or i7 with minimum of 6 Gb RAM and a decent separate graphics card. For real world results I use a Dell Inspiron laptop with 1.

I handles standard definition okay x and at a push p but not a snowball's chance in hell of handling full x HD no matter what the codec, container or format. So only get this or the newer versions if your computer is powerful enough for the task otherwise rendering can be frustratingly slow.

Good thing with this is that there is a ton of useful websites and You Tube videos teaching how to get the best from Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum and the later versions.

Report abuse. This Sony software is an excellent product, and unless you really need to edit 3D footage Version 10 is more than adequate, and it is now significantly cheaper that the new version Computer magazine reviews always rate this as the best editor for home use, and is not overley difficult to use, but you will need to put in some time to learn how to use it fully.

What is not noted is that the product also ships with excellent DVD Architect software which together with Movie Studio enables you to put toghter a really professional looking product. Just a word of caution - I am using an Intel quad processor pc with 4gb of ram and a 1gb nvidia grahics card, and the software runs fine even when handling large HD movie footage. If you do have a less powerful computer you may want to consider whether the computer is up to the job of video editing.

It's not a fault with the Sony product just that video editing needs a lot of proceeing power i'm afraid. I purchased this software after buying a sony camcorder, reading various revues it seemed the best to keep it 'in house' I have had editing programmes in the past, but found this particularly one difficult to get my head around.

YouTube has some videos but even those sort of skip some of the basics that are needed to get up and running. My first attempt was when I used an old video disk. It downloaded into the programme ok but editing out various parts of it was,in my experience, difficult to get my head around.

I will download some video straight from the camcorder and see if that helps me to figure it out. I'm a silver surfer so maybe a lot of patience is required. Having owned this software for almost a year I can say it has put me right off using my video camera. Sony have tried to make it all things to all men and I have no doubt whoever wrote the software thinks is great however it is far too complicated.

If anyone knows of simple effective video editing software please let me know.
